The Junior Jays Varsity beat Millard West 20-5 on Sunday afternoon, March 25 in a game played at Leahy Stadium. On a cold and cloudy day, the Junior Jays came out fast. David Spitzenberger took the opening faceoff win into a sweet left-handed shot to put the Junior Jays up 1-0 within 5 seconds of the opening whistle. RJ Moffatt scored 15 seconds later to have the Junior Jays up 2-0 at the 11:40 mark of the first period. Millard West and Jays traded a few goals to make it a 3-2 game, then the Jays took control and went on a 14-0 scoring run. Halftime saw the game 17-3 in favor of the Junior Jays. The starters saw minimal action in the second half to have the Junior Jays finish with a 20-5 victory.
Prep scorers were led by RJ Moffatt (7 goals and 1 assist), Paul Gordon ( 5 goals and 1 assist), Mark Mausbach (4 goals and 1 assist), Jack Mausbach (1 goal and 1 assist), David Spitzenberger (1 goal and 1 assist). Leo Dunlap and Nate Meier each added a goal. Mac Nelson and Max King each added an assist. The Junior Jay Defense was led by Leo Dunlap (7 ground balls) David Spitzenberger (six ground balls) Matt Buckley (four ground balls) Tom Barrett (2 ground balls). Other players grabbing a single ground ball each are Jack Abt, Josh Milota, Mike Spitzenberger, Ian Keyser, Nathan Yale. Junior Jay Goalie Jack Abt is credited with 5 saves and Javier Macias is credited with 2 saves.
Coach Haney stated “Today was the fastest start on record for the Junior Jays. Two goals in 20 seconds is a great way to start the season. Keeping that pace will be hard, but I can see this team pushing to try and match our season from last year. I just am looking for two more wins over last year.”
The win improves the Junior Jay record to 1-0 for the season. Next up for the Junior Jays are the Cobra Lacrosse Club, Thursday, March 29, at 6:00 PM at Leahy Stadium.

Prep Scorers were led by Max King (5 goals) and Mac Nelson (1 goal and 4 assists). Jay Gregor added a pair of assists on the day. Other goals were scored by Bo Kurtz, Mark Crane, John Kubat, and Trey Dethlefs. The Junior Jay Defense was led by Josh Hauser and Ben Newell. Junior Jay Goalie Javier Macias was credited with 5 saves in the win.
Coach Kennedy was excited to see Javier Macias continue to improve. “Javi was great in todays game with a good save percentage. You stop more than you let in is a win any day for a goalie.” Coach Haney added “Having some veteran defensemen really helped set a tone for the team. Max King seemed to have a great day and six of the ten goals having an assist is a testimony to the ball movement on offense.”

The Junior Jay Blue JV Team won a close game with Millard West 5-3 on Sunday afternoon, March 25th at Leahy Stadium to complete the sweep of Millard West.
Prep goals were split between John Kubat, Josh Hauser, Ben Jones, Nate Meier, and Trey Dethlefs. Coach Lunn had high praise for Ethan Owens. “Ethan was a ground ball machine today. The team played well today and getting better every game”. Coach Haney added” Sixteen freshmen make up a great team for the future. The Young Guns played well today. Joe Buckely and Nolan Gosch continue to impress on defense. They were joined by a pair of new comers in Will Fulsang and Corey Callahan who are making great strides. The Middies were hungry for ground balls and we won that battle.
Javier Macias played goalie for the JV Blue team with an additional five saves. “Javi played a lot today (2.5 games) and should be pretty sore. I am very pleased with his development and cannot wait to see what his future will be” stated Coach Haney
