The Junior Jay Varsity beat Burke Lacrosse 13-0 Thursday evening at Burke High School. In the game Prep shot the ball 38 times for 13 goals. Coach Stoll remarked “Burke’s goalie (Anthony Brill) is one of the better goalies in the state and was at the top of his game tonight.”
Prep scorers were led by Mark Mausbach (4 goals and 2 assists), RJ Moffatt (four goals and 1 assist), Paul Gordon (3 goals and 2 assists) and Jack Mausbach (2 goals). The Junior Jay Defense was led by Mac Nelson (9 ground balls), Tom Barrett (5 ground balls), Ian Keyser (5 ground balls), Leo Dunlap (5 ground balls), Matthew Buckley (4 ground balls), and Cameron Kozol (2 ground balls). In goal, Jack Abt recorded 4 saves.
Coach Haney was pleased with the efforts on both sides of the ball. “The Defense held Burke without a shot in the first quarter, not sure if that has ever happened before. I would like to think that the offense was responsible for some of that record by holding the ball on offense for so long.” Coach Grosskurth asked for a shout out to the young face off crew. Junior David Spitzenberger was unable to play tonight and Sophomore Mac Nelson had to step up at the face off X. Mac Nelson went 8 for 8 on face offs and help Prep set the tone early. Mac was helped at the X by Freshmen Michael Spitzenberger and Trey Dethlefs.
The win moves the Junior Jay record to 5-0 for the season. Next up for the Junior Jays are the Ankeny Hawks on Saturday April 21 at 10:00am. The game is at Russell Middle School and we will be hosted by Millard West
