The Junior Jay Varsity defeated Sioux Falls Sparks 22-2 on Sunday morning at Westside Stadium. The game is one of the two out-of-conference games that the Varsity will play for 2018. This may have been the best weather day so far for the season. Coach Al asked me for some sunscreen it was so nice outside.
Prep Scorers were led by RJ Moffatt (four goals and three assists), Max King (three goals and two assists), Paul Gordon (three goals and 1 assist) Nate Meier (two goals and two assists) Tom Barrett (three goals), Trey Dethlefs (two goals and assist), Cameron Kozol (1 goal and 1 assist). Other Junior Jays scoring goals were Bob Lawton, Owen Watts, Matt Buckley, and Ian Keyser. Josh Milota may have had the assist of the day with his ground ball pick up deep in our end, dodge a Sioux Falls attackman, run away from the Sioux Falls middie, and then drew a slide from a defender to leave RJ Moffatt open for a point blank goal. Jack Abt and Javier Macias split time in goal. Jack recorded 5 saves and Javi had a save.
Coach Haney commented that “Sioux Falls had yet to play an outdoor game and they drove down for a full weekend of lacrosse. The Sparks played Sarpy and Cobra on Saturday and then turned around to play Prep/Westside on Sunday. With only 4 subs, they played us tough. That does not show up in the score of the game. My hat is off to them for such an aggressive schedule.”
The win improves the Junior Jays to 7-0 for the season. Next up for the Junior Jays is Elkhorn South on Thursday April 26 at 6:00pm. The game is at Elkhorn Middle School.
