The Junior Jay Varsity beat the City-Wide Team of Lincoln Lacrosse club 11-5 on Wednesday May 9th at Speedway Village in Lincoln, NE. The game was not as close as the score appeared as Lincoln scored four of their goals on Man-up and the Junior Jays scored on their only (single) Man-up opportunity. Despite the distractions from the scorers table to the coaches and players, Prep managed a solid win.
“We have to stop shooting ourselves in the foot in terms of penalties” remarked Coach Haney. Creighton Prep played either one or two men down for an entire quarter. “We had over 12 minutes of penalties in the game, plus one ejection. There were a pair of 3-minute penalties and 2-minute penalty that were all non-releasable. That means that the player stays in the penalty box for the full length of the penalty no matter how many times the opponent scores. We need to clean that up going into the state playoffs” stated Coach Haney.
Prep scorers were led by RJ Moffatt (six goals), Mark Mausbach (three goals and 1 assist), Paul Gordon (1 goal and 2 assists), Grant Shepherd (1 goal) and Cameron Kozol (1 assist). The Junior Jay Defense was led by Matthew Buckley (3 ground balls), Tommy Barrett (3 ground balls) Bob Lawton (3 ground balls), Jack Mausbach (2 ground balls). Goalie Jack Abt recorded 11 saves in the victory.
The win improves the Junior Jays to 10-0 for the season and 8-0 in NELAX play. Next up for the Jays is Senior Night for the Junior Jays against Westside Lacrosse. The game is on Tuesday May 15th at Leahy Stadium. Game time is 6:00pm. We will have a tail gate to follow the game.
